PHP on Windows has built-in support for ODBC, but that requires you to install ODBC drivers and possibly supporting database-specific networking glue on your web server. This is an optional procedure that may be followed to replace that legacy kind of support for use with an ODBCRouter: that allows the drivers and networking glue to be installed and maintained separate from the web server, on a remote Windows VM or PC.

Step 1: Download and install the OverDriver

click Start->Run
enter http://odbcrouter.com/m/ODSETUP.EXE
follow default prompts until installation completes

Step 2: Create a DSN

open the ODBC Administrator control panel
select the System DSN tab
click ADD
select the iODBC.NET / OverDriver driver
enter the IP Address or DNS name of the Windows box hosting your ODBC Router.
click REFRESH
pick the ODBC Data Source Name that you want to use
save out of the ODBC control panel
